Susan Hill has been a professional writer for over 50 years, producing literary novels, short stories, ghost stories, detective fiction, essays and reviews, and children's books. The play of her novella The Woman in Black has been running in the West End since 1988. She is the recipient of the Whitbread, John Llewellyn Rhys and Somerset Maugham prizes, and has been shortlisted for the Booker. Her latest work of fiction is the haunting Black Sheep, set in a mining village.
